So, you have the Image Widget plugin installed on your Wordpress site.
Here's how to use it:
1.) Log in to the Wordpress dashboard.
2.) Click on "Appearance" tab in the left menu to open it
3.) Click on Widgets
4.) You will notice the Image Widget "box" in the Available Widgets section:
5.) Also notice on the right, the various widget areas that your theme might have:
6.) Open the area where you want to place the image. In this case, we want to put it in the "Primary" widget area which will display the widget in the sidebar of the website.
7.) It might be empty or it might have some widgets already in there. To "install" the Image Widget into the widget area, click and drag on the "Image Widget" box into the Widget area.
8.) Usually, once you pop it in, the widget should open. if not, just click on the arrow to the right of the widget box.
9.) Once open, you are able to fiddle around with the settings, upload your image, add a title and caption. The other settings include:
- having the image a link to something
- whether it opens a new window or opens in the same window
- The width and height of the image
- The alignment on the webpage
- In case the image doesn't load for some reason, an Alternate Text to display instead.
Note: This Alternate text is used by Search Engines, so, it is highly recommended that you put a description of what the image is trying to depict. If you don't put in an alternate text, search engines don't like it, since they don't know what the image is about - affecting your ranking.
10.) After you've completed all the fields and are happy, you can click on the save button and view the results on the website. Coming back to the back-end, you can click on close, which will just minimise the Image Widget. To remove the widget, you can click on delete, or simply click and drag the widget box out of the Widget Area.
